My pal Jim over at Bargaineering recently wrote about a $75 cashback offer that he received from Discover. What’s remarkable about this offer is that it’s associated with a card that he’s had for over a decade as opposed to being a signup bonus.
All he has to do is spend $1k on this card by September 30, 2012 and he’ll get the bonus. While this is most likely a targeted offer aimed at getting those with dormant Discover More cards to dig them out and start using them, current customers should keep an eye out for similar missives from Discover.
Have any of you received anything like this in your mailbox? I’ve long since cancelled my old Discover account (maybe I shouldn’t have!) so I won’t be getting anything similar.
You know…in general its not a good idea to mess around with cards. But if you can pay off the balance every month, this could be a good way to get a bit of cash back.
I have the Discover Open Road card and use it frequently. Recently I received a promotion through them giving me a $10 credit to Best Buy. I used it to get a free cd ($9.49 w/ tax) and soon after receiving the confirmation email that they would be crediting my account, I got another giving me a $1 credit to Burger King. I won’t be using it, but I liked the first offer!
I have not received the offer, but have had the almost dormant Discover for years. I keep it around for times when the 5% cashback categories are in my wheelhouse and dare me no to use it!
I have had Discover for a long long time. I use it as my primary card (and pay it off every month). So, no, I haven’t seen one of these offers. BUT I will pay more attention to the junk mail for awhile.
Nice deal if you can get it! We didn’t receive the offer, but we are hardly inactive. We put nearly everything on the card, so they don’t need to incentivize (is that a word?) us. I’ll watch the mail just in case!
Last year got $150 for spending $1000/month for 3 months. Not a huge deal in and of itself, but it corresponded with 2% back for Birthday month and 2% for online shopping so got 7% back for many things.
