Home Depot Rebate Comes Through (and Quick!)

Remember when I was beating myself up for missing the deadline for our Home Depot $100 gift card rebate (by a single friggin’ day)? I later noted that they had acknowledged receipt of our rebate submission. Well, I’ve been periodically checking back on the status of our rebate and today I was thrilled to see the following message:

Your gift card was mailed on 26-Sep-2006. Please allow at least 30 days for delivery.

Woohoo! Looks like we’ll be getting our $100 after all. And if you’ve ever relocated like we did this summer, then you know that $100 at Home Depot is as good as straight cash in the months following your move.

For Several months Home Depot has been rejecting all our reciepts relating to an online buy of Behr. Paint memorial weekend sale. They are obnoxious and accusing in tone. Lowes will be getting my business until this is corrected and maybe after that. Complete incompetence. Over 40 freaking dollars. They were getting over 500 a month business from me.

  2. I purchased paint this spring and received a sixty dollar rebate card in July. On September I attempted to use the card but found that the card was zeroed out in August. I called the card customer service number but that line is disconnected. I suppose I’ll have to seek help fro the Attorney General’s office also.

The Behr rebate program through Home Depot is a SCAM!!!

I submitted everything online (correctly) and received an email a month later giving me a tracking number. When I went to check the status of my rebate it said it was INVALID, no reason was provided. When I called customer service the lady said that the rebate had to be mailed in. When I told her that the rebate form stated “If you submit online, you DO NOT need to mail in the offer form or receipts” she hung up on me!!

I will never do business with Home Depot or Behr again.

I purchased a $1,000 fridge, $449 washer, $379 dryer. and $59 delivery service. I was offered rebate for delivery and gift card for energy star also. I filed the same day online. I received a letter saying that I didnt qualify for any rebates only 9 days later. If I didn’t just purchased a brand new home, I would have passed up calling The whole reason I bought from Home Depot was the rebates. I paid with cash, so I had a choice. I called and was told that it was filed again. She said to check back in 14 business days. I asked for full name and informed her that I was documenting the phone call. I will post again if I get them or not.

Like so many of you, I was sure I had been had by Home Depot on their rebate program. I had $55.00 coming for rebate on my w/d delivery, and a $150.00 store card. I went around and around with them for over 3 months, and suddenly I received both the $55.00 check, and the $150.00 store card. So don’t give up, keep after them….

Just adding my name to the already long list of people frustrated with Home Depot rebates. I purchased a washer and dryer at the end of March online and sent in the rebate (the rebate period had just begun, so plenty of time to send it in) immediately. Got a postcard at the beginning of May stating my rebate was rejected because my purchase didn’t qualify. NOTE: Rebate was for all appliances, and I know the purchase qualified as I followed a link from the product page on the Depot website to claim the rebate after purchase. Called and spoke with a helpful fellow in the rebate center who reviewed my purchase and said he didn’t know why it came back rejected but assured me he would send it through again and it should be mailed out within five days. I was fine with that, it was still within the expected 6-8 week time frame, no big deal. Another month passes, and according to the rebate status website, it has still not been mailed. Sent an email inquiry and was told that my rebate was not received until 5/8 (I submitted on 3/31) and so I had to wait 8 weeks from that date. It is now the middle of June, 10 weeks after I submitted the rebate and it has still not been mailed, through no fault of my own. I only wish I had checked for rebate problems before my purchase, I am sure hundreds of others will feel the same. I am comforted that some people actually received their rebates but what a joke, how many hoops people have to jump through to get something so simple! Anyways, Home Depot can rest assured the purchase I will hopefully eventually be able to make with my rebate will be the last one I make there. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere in the future.

I purchased washer, dryer and refrigerator from Home Depot more than 3 months ago. Submitted rebates on-line 2-3 days after the purchase (long time before the deadline). After 7-8 weeks received e-mail that the rebate cannot be honored. I spend many hours on the phone – guess what there was a little mistake in their system. I faxed a copy of my receipt. Still nothing. Many more hours on the phone – guess what – another mistake with SKU code (apparently somewone cannot read). I was told I need to wait 6-8 more weeks, even the mistake was on them. I am still waiting and expecting the next mistake or lost submission or I don’t know what to expect from them. I will never make a major purchase from Home Depot again and I will share my terrible experience with everyone I know.

I had a problem with HD rebates, except I was dumb and didn’t make a copy of my receipt or anything; I just forgot about it til like ohhhh June of 07…anyway, what happened was I bought this $30 Christmas tree in December 06 and the rebate was $30 so essentially I get it for free. Awesome! Free Christmas tree! Well, I worked there at the time and a couple came in and wanted one in the box so I traded them the last one which was the floor model so I didn’t have the UPC. I wrote it on the form that it was the floor model and I didn’t have it (the UPC). Apparently this wasn’t good enough for them and I even worked there! Jerks. That place is so UGH and I’m glad I moved away and don’t have to put up with their BS management anymore.

And to the person above me…that’s not true, Home Depot gift cards do NOT lose value over time.

wow I feel real lucky, I got a projection tv from depot around the holidays, had a rebate form attatched to it, well when i got it home and looked the rebate had expired i called 800 number on form got quick curtious service and she took all my info over the phone for the rebate i malied in the copy of upc and reciept and got my rebate in less than two weeks. I think it is all a matter of what the rebate is for and who you talk too, because well i have gotten lucky with every rebate from the depot (even though i prefer lowes) totaling about 3000.00 in total rebates

word of advise when you complete any rebate make copies of everything and also just so you know depot gift cards loose value over time even if you do not spend and of it thats a real stinker they slowly loose value so they get your money for nothing just like most of their rebates also state in ultra fine print they can refuse any rebate at any time,
but since they have gotten a new ceo they are trying to turn things around and get back to basics customer service we will see only time will tell hope they did not wait too long to change things around

Latest update on my Home Depot Rebate struggle: The first 3 times they said they did not have my paperwork, which I sent and sent and sent. Next it was you do not qualify as a receipt was missing-sent another copy. Now the latest is that I do not qualify because the product I purchased is not energy-efficient. (Whose fault is that?) Told the girl that I have the rebate form in front of me and there is no mention of that. The product just has to cost over $299, and mine was $499. And the store told me I would qualify. She sez I have to go back to store management, and I said we know where that would go; it does say on the rebate form that store has nothing to do with rebates, it has to come from her. It is almost, I said almost, funny. Are they trained to put customers thru all this, or just incompetent? Either give a rebate or don’t, and don’t advertise it if you are not planning to pay it. I told her it does not make good sense to lose a good customer, plus possibly all my friends and relatives and anyone I talk to, for a lousy $50 rebate. Also told her that Lowe’s is building a shiny new store right across the mall from Home Depot, and any business I have will go there in the future. As if they care. They will one day go the way of Chase Pitkin and Grants and all the others. No doubt they get paid based on the number of rebates they can deny. I went thru the same thing with Dell a few years ago, but finally got my $150, and after that the government got after them. So my project for today is to locate the NY Attorney General’s office and see what they will do.

So my moral here is don’t buy at the Home Depot based just on a possible rebate-it ain’t coming! Deceptive advertising? Fraudulent marketing? Who cares?

I have sent numerous e-mails but no action.
I sent all the information that I needed to get my rebate back. What is wrong?’
I better get some action very soon or I am going to go to the Better Business Bureau.

Our fiasco started on 9/28/06. We purchased a Toro blower complete with all qualified attachments. To date April 30, 2007, we have not received our $25.00 rebate. After repeatedly calling, talking to the store manager we are receiving the same OLD song and dance 6 to 12 weeks. How long must a person wait? I have contacted corporate headquarters at 1 800-553=3199 to be told she talked to blah blah and it should arrive in 7 to 10 days. This has been told to us since September. I told them I feel it should be doubled by now as we could not let our bills go this long unpaid, RIGHT??

    FROM ROGERSVILLE ALABAMA

I AM A CURRENT VICTIM OF THE HOME DEPOT ROOFING AND SIDING SCAM. THIS JOB ENDED UP COSTING ME 12082.00 TOTAL FOR BOTH JOBS. THINKING I WOULD BE IMPROVING MY HOME AND TRUSTING A NAME IN THE HOME IMPROVEMENT INDUSTRY, I RELIED ON HOME DEPOT TO DO THIS RIGHT.

5 MEXICANS AND A HACK CONTRACTOR SHOWED UP. RIPPED OFF MY SHINGLES, DID NOT REPLACE MY DECKING, AND RESHINGLED. AND LEFT IN ONE DAY. THE JOB IS A TOTAL JOKE. YOU WOULD JUST HAVE TO SEE IT,, I AM CURRENTLY ARGUING WITH GEORGE KEATON 615-642-8282, ROB HOLIDAY 256-221-8606, AND TED FORD 615-519-5612. THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME, I KNOW IT CAN HAPPEN TO OTHERS. I COULD NOT SELL MY HOME TO HOMELESS PEOPLE FOR 0.00.

OH, AND THE GAF PEOPLE HAVE NOT BEEN AROUND, NOT EVEN A CALL. I CONTRACTED THIS JOB ON 10-13-06 JOB WAS COMPLETE ON 11-27-06, AND I HAVE BEEN IN A BATTLE SINCE. I HAD ORIGINALLY CONTRACTED 57 DECKING SHEATS, BUT THEY HACKED UP MY ROOF TO USE ONLY 3, SO I DEDUCTED THAT FROM THE ORIGINAL COST, THEN THERE WAS A DISCRIPENCY OF 918.00 BETWEEN DOWN PAYMENTS. THEY DID NOT WANT TO GIVE THAT BACK. NOW I AM ASKING FOR A TOTAL REINSTALL AND ALL MY MONEY BACK. THE SIDING IS A JOKE ALSO,,I AM ASHAMED TO HAVE BEEN TAKEN LIKE THIS AND WASTED THIS MUCH MONEY. MY HOUSE WILL NOT RECEIVE A 125% RETURN ON THE SALE.

I’ve never had any trouble with rebates from Home Depot, including the one for insulation that Keith had trouble with. Of course, I only needed one rebate.

Technically, I realized after I sent the rebate in that I had not followed through with all of the terms of the rebate (I did not think I needed to send UPCs for some reason and had already thrown them out) and I still got the rebate.

Its nice to see, I,m not alone with my frustration. The $100.00 rebate on a shed I purchased four months ago has still not arrived.I,ve made six calls to the rebate office with only conflicting stories.I,ll keep pushing until I see a checque in my mail box.Keep in mind, these rebate officea are third parties-there call centres, not Home Depote staff-GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

I’m finished with home depot. Im tearing up my card and paying off my balance with them and going to lowes. Im sick and tired of being scamed by them. I sent in a so called rebate for some insulation and was told by the store associate that there was no limit on how many rebates there were for buying corining insulaiton. I sent in all the UPC codes and receipts and was told I only quilfied for one rebate. It didnt make any sense the e mail said I needed to purchase a all my insulation at one time to qualify for a rebate up to 350 dollars per household. I sent in two diferent purchases a couple days apart and they said they would only honor one rebate. Needless to say I never reciev that rebate. Another piticular point is that they didnt send back my no good UPC codes or reciepts for the second purchase…It doesn’t take a mental giant to understand that they tell you one thing and do another. The rebate card didnt say anything about a one time purchase either. I could of had my friend or brother send in the second purchase if that was the case. I never received anything form them but a lot of talk in the bag…Lowes here I come.
I spent over 30 thousand with them and I just built a new home–I wont buy a nail form them and dittos to all of you who wont either–they can take notice iof their stock due to poor custonmer service!!

I payed 11,000.00+ for a “premium” roof with a ridge vent system in September. I was told it would take 5 days to finnish my roof and 6 weeks to recieve my promotional TV. They removed the roof in 3 days, removed and destroyed a bunch of my antique cedar siding, then didnt come back until we were in the middle of a rain storm to tarp the roof. Then the entire crew quit and we waited again. Finally they got the roofing on after two + weeks. The next step was engineering the vent system for it’s install. Still nothing~ I’ve checked on my promotion Tv weekly since November 15th when it should have arrived. Still nothing~, so I emailed 2 weeks ago they replied with the same thing that has been on the website for weeks, that they recieved my submission in September and that it was being processed. I am about to call a new roofing company and take Home Depot Installed Services to court~ What a bunch of scammers… I have never heard of a roof job on a small home taking 4 months+ to complete….

This spring, 2006, I purchased two American Standard toilets from Home Depot. Each came with a $50 rebate which was in the form of a Gift Card. I received both of the cards in August. Guess I did well, considering the problems I just read about above.

However, I’ve just learned that most of the balance of both of these cards have been STOLEN from me!

I made a purchase with one of the cards in early September, 2006. There was a balance of 19.64 on that card. I hadn’t made any purchases at HD until I went to the store in early December. I was aghast when I was told that both cards had a zero balance!

The store manager gave me a read-out of the card history and it showed that purchases were made against the cards in one store in Illinois! I live in NJ and I’ve never been in Illinois and I’ve never shopped in any HD store in Illinois.

I was referred to the HD rebate center. It’s now Dec 24 and I’m still waiting for resolution. I intend to keep calling back until I get some kind of replacement of the value owed me.

My guess is that someone in the fulfillment center is making copies of the cards before mailing them. They see that there is little or now activity on the cards and they go spending.

Perhaps that’s what’s going on in the cases where people never get their cards – they are stolen by the people that are supposed to be sending them to you!

I agree that I will not be willing to purchase at HD with promised rebates. It’s not worth it.

Follow up after writing several emails to Home Depot rebate dept and writing the managers at my local store. I went ahead and sent a complaint to the BBB and to the FTC and what do you know, the homedepot rebate dept decided that they would send me my rebate after all. The hassle of having to fight for my rebate really stinks! I am please that home depot resonded indiciating that I will be receiving my gift card, however I do not think the incentive of a rebate will ever entice me again.

Well I guess Im not alone. I bought kitchen cabinets and most stuff from them. After two submissions they said I need to allow “at least 30 days for your rebate to arrive”. Will today is 32 days and still no $500.00 rebate. I guess from the prior post I should call one more time!, and i should also go the Attorney General route.

  23. Anonymous

Whaddya know – the gift card actually arrived yesterday. Guess there’s just something about a letter from an attorney general that makes even Home Depot take notice.

We pay taxes for government agencies, so when you need their services, use them! The complaint form is online in Oregon, and probably is in most if not all other states. Took all of 15 minutes to fill it out and mail it with copies of the rebate paperwork and the emails I got from them. Total cost: 78 cents for two first-class stamps.

Score: Consumers 1, Home Depot 5,782,407. But at least it ain’t a shutout! 😉

I am tired of the Home Depot Rebate Scam – I purchased $7,000 of cabinets from Home Depot and I abided by a rebate offer to receive a $500.00 Home Depot card with my qualifying purchase. I completed the forms, mailed them in with the store receipt weeks before the dealine followed up by checking the homedepot rebate status list weekly and even checked in with the homedepot customer service counter at my local store. Then I received an email from the rebate center stating that I did not qualify because I didn’t meet the deadline for this specific rebate. I am holding Home Depot accountable. I refuse to be scammed. I followed instructions and mailed it in plenty of time. If there is a class action lawsuit that is needed then so be it, but consumers are tried of jumping through hoops for these rebates and then the rebate companies choosing not to honor them. It appears their are many of us who have been scammed what can be done about this?

  25. Anonymous

Well, you had a better experience with Home Depot’s rebate center than I did. I submitted all the paperwork on time, and it took 3 months – and several phone calls and emails – just to get them to acknowledge receipt of the paperwork. Then they denied my $150 gift card, saying that my purchase (a $1500 Jenn-Air oven) was made prior to the promotion. It wasn’t, as clearly shown on my submittal. After several more calls and emails, they still denied my gift card for the same reason.

Finally, I filed a consumer complaint with the attorney general’s office here in Oregon. Gee, what a surprise – less than two weeks later, the AG’s office sent me a copy of a fax they received from Home Depot, acknowledging that I do indeed qualify for the gift card. I should get sometime this month (Oct 06), but I won’t believe it until it’s in my hand.

This isn’t an isolated experience. Go to consumeraffairs.com, and you’ll see tons of complaints about their customer service and their rebate center. I will never make a major purchase from them again – I’ll shop at local appliance stores, even if it costs more.
