Okey-dokey, I just moved this site (along with a couple of others) to Dreamhost.com last night, and everything seems to be back to normal. I’m now on Dreamhost’s ‘Crazy Domain Insane’ plan, which allows you to host an unlimited (!) number of domains. For just $9.95/month, they give you 4800 MB of storage space, 120 GB of transfer/month, a free domain name, and pretty much anything else you could hope for, including support WebDAV, which isn’t all that easy to find (in case you don’t know, WebDAV allows you to treat directories on your web space as networked hard drives — very handy!). And all of this comes with a 97 day money back guarantee. So far I’ve been very pleased with the Dreamhost admin interface and, as I said above, the transition was incredibly painless. If you’re interested in trying them out, just hop on over to Dreamhost.com and enter “SAVE77” as your discount/promo code when you check out. This coupon code knocks $77 off the price of a year (or more) of hosting, taking it down to just $3.53/month. For more details on available plans, just click here for a side-by-side comparison.
Disclaimer: I’ll get a small(ish) kickback if you use the above coupon code, so it’s a win-win situation. Actually, the commission is quite small compared to the discount that you’ll be getting, so it’s really a win-WIN situation. So why not save some money and support this site at the same time?
I am now using Dreamhost and Bluehost. Dreamhost has a couple of new websites that I want to get going over the next 3 months or so, and Bluehost has my original sites. The last week or so BlueHost hasn’t been doing so well in the server department, so if their problems persist I may move some of my sites to dreamhost that are currently on bluehost.
Dreamhost is the bomb!
We host about 40 websites and then some clients it it just gets better all the time, really good hosting, highly recommended!
Enjoy!
Well, I am perfectly happy with BlueHost right now, so the 3 main projects that I have going on there will likely stay there until they grow to the point they need more dedicated services. For a new project, though, I probably will try Dreamhost. Note that if you register the domain through Dreamhost, you won’t have an expense there for the domain name, but even if you get the dreamhost account as cheap as you can possibly pay, it is still a minimum of $22.40 for a year (which is a great price, don’t get me wrong…)
If you’re starting a new project, it might be worth trying them out to see if you like them. If so, then you can migrate the rest of your sites over as you have time. If not, then you can just bring the new project back to Blue Host. My main thing about Dreamhost is that it gives you a ton of flexibility with its unlimited domain hosting. Have an idea? Create a website. There’s not real cost beyond registering the domain name (and your time, of course).
I am currently using BlueHost but have been considering trying out DreamHost for a side project I hope to start in the next month or two. I am signed up as an affiliate for dreamhost, so I’d get the full discount I could off of that; I am just trying to decide if it is worth starting a new account or sticking with folks I have so far been pretty happy with.
