Buying Term Life Insurance, Part IV

At long last… It’s been a couple of weeks since my wife and I first started shopping for new term life insurance policies, and we finally had our medical exams yesterday. The Portamedic showed up (as promised) right at 8:00 AM, and we got down to business. We had already filled out our insurance application packets, which contained a lot of questions about our lifestyle (e.g., do we parachute?) and health history. And when the Portamedic arrived, she sat down and proceeded to ask us the exact same questions. She then took our blood pressure, height and weight, and collected blood and urine samples. It took just under an hour for her to process the two of us, and then she was on her way. Now we wait. I’m guessing that the underwriting process will take another month or so. As an aside, I haven’t had my blood pressure checked in awhile, and was pleased to find that it was down a good bit (~20 points) today. It’s never been terribly high, but the last time that I had it checked it was higher than I would have liked. I’m not sure if this is related or not, but I kicked the caffeine habit a few months back, and I’m guessing that’s why things have improved.

Caffeine is the devil. Way more addictive than alcohol or tobacco, and when used in moderation is worse for you. Maybe I am biased though; it can make me go blind when I consume it.
